The upside of having good weather in December in Los Angeles is that there’s no shortage of things to do during the holidays. Los Angeles’ rich cultural diversity provides a plethora of unique experiences in many of its vibrant neighborhoods.

This holiday season, Little Tokyo is again be one of the best places in the city to ring in the holidays. There are countless reasons to spend the day at one of the great L.A. neighborhoods this December, but here are the top five reasons to Go Little Tokyo for the holidays.

Shogun Santa is Coming to Town – Whether you’re looking for a truly special Christmas gift for a loved one or just a gift for that white elephant Christmas party at work, you can find something special and unique at one of many of Little Tokyo’s gift shops. You can find SEIJU’s finest Yame Matcha from Tea Master Little Tokyo, the highest-quality Matcha powder in taste, aroma and color. If handmade artisan goods are your thing, Muni Handmade has thoughtful gifts, such as vintage Kimono fabric purses, handmade chef aprons, and barrettes made from Japanese Washi paper.

It’s the Most Wonderful Time of Year – You can find incredible seasonal attractions at Little Tokyo, but let’s face it: You’re there for the food! Have some delicious udon noodles at Marugame Monzo (hope the line isn’t too long), grub on some delectable sushi at Sushi Gen or, if you find comfort in familiarity, Daikokuya is there for you whenever you need it.

Merry Mochi and Happy New Year – After you’ve had your fill of ramen, sushi or noodles, you have to make a little room for mochi. These colorful, chewy ice cream treats come in many different flavors and are ideal to share while you walk the beautifully lighted alleyways of Little Tokyo. Fugestu-do’s Mochi, owned by various generations of the Ito family since 1903, is an ideal stop to get your mochi fix.

Not a Silent Night – One of the musts when going to Little Tokyo year-round is the live traditional music. The holidays are no different, as the annual Japanese New Year’s Oshogatsu Festival brings live entertainment, Japanese food, Taiko drummers, mochi-making and more in the downtown Weller Court Shopping Center and Japanese Village Plaza.

Spreading Holiday Cheer – You can spread holiday cheer this season by paying it forward! This holiday season, Go Little Tokyo and the Little Tokyo Community Council (LTCC) has joined Little Tokyo Senior Nutrition Services to provide as many meals as possible for the elderly folks of Little Tokyo. You can donate online today at golittletokyo.com/supportourseniors/ to do your part in bringing a little joy to Little Tokyo.
