The Baseball Writers’ Association of America (BBWAA) named Angels center fielder Mike Trout the 2016 American League Most Valuable Player today. Garnering 19 first-place votes, eight second-place votes and one third-place vote for 356 balloting points, this is Trout’s second career MVP award.

“Mike’s standard of performance is as much a testament to his physical abilities as it is to his character and upbringing,” says Angels General Manager Billy Eppler. “He exhibits a ferocious work ethic and competitiveness directed at continuous improvement in all aspects of his game, and we are all lucky to watch him play day in and day out.”

Trout finished this season batting .315 with 123 runs scored, 32 doubles, five triples, 29 home runs, 100 RBI and 30 stolen bases. He led the Majors in runs, walks and OBP.

Halo fans across the Southland celebrate with Trout and the rest of his teammates.

Angels first baseman and three-time MVP Albert Pujols comments, “Congratulations to Mike on winning this award. Not only is he a great teammate, but he plays this game with respect and passion, and I couldn’t be more proud of him. I consider myself lucky just to watch him play every single day.”
