With 35 years of experience, Margarita La Diosa de la Cumbia has ventured into different musical genres. From cumbia, boleros, vallenato, salsa and now bachata. Margarita, originally from Medellín, Colombia, but Mexican at heart, began her artistic career at age 18. Since then, she has recorded more than 27 albums and won four times the “Oye” award for recorded music.
In November 2005 Margarita celebrated her 25-year career in the 21st Century Auditorium in the city of Puebla, performing with the great symphony orchestra of this state. That memorable event was recorded and now we can remember it on the DVD/CD Margarita SinfónicaShe was invited by Televisa in “Cantando for un sueno” and “Los reyes de la canción.“ She was also invited by Armando Manzanero to participate in the project Las mujeres de Manzanero with the theme, “No ha pasado nada,” one of the great boleros of history.
In October 2010, Margarita celebrated her 30th birthday, fulfilling one of her great wishes: to perform for the first time in the National Auditorium. As a result of this concert, in 2011, 30 anos de cumbia” was released, a CD and DVD that AMPROFON certifies as a double gold and platinum record for its high sales.
In 2012, Margarita received the highest decoration awarded by the Colombian government to her illustrious citizens in the different fields of the arts and sports, “Grado de Caballero,” in recognition of the excellent musical work of Margarita. Also in 2012, she won for the fourth time the “La Musa” prize, as best Latin music soloist and social prize for music 2012 by the Communication and Voice of Companies Council with the theme “Esta vida.“
By January 2013, she performed FOR THE FIRST TIME at the Gibson Amphitheater in Los Angeles, California where she recorded a CD/DVD, “Desde mis raices.” At the same time, Margarita made several collaborations with: Yuri, Alex Syntek, Alejandra Guzmán, Armando Manzanero, Jesse & Joy, Caló, Samo, Mané de la Parra, Bacilos, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Paquita la Barrio and recently with AB Quintanilla & Kumbia All Starz.
In July 2015, her CD Sin Fronteras was released, with the first single “Te di todo,” a rich bachata by Samo and at the same time, her book, El Lugar Donde Habitan Tus Suenos.
